4th April Holy Saturday - we are inviting you to join us in a day of fasting, for as much or as little of the day as you choose (please only fast if it is safe for you to do so). This follows on from our recent practice of Fasting that we have been introduced to. Holy Saturday is a day of fasting for the worldwide church and we are inviting you to join in as we wait in the silence of Holy Saturday. The church will be open all day for you to come and sit and pray and wait with Jesus on this hugely important day in the Easter story. You may want to specifically come during the times you would usually be eating a meal. If you wish, come ready with a donation for our food bank, or a financial gift that we will then give to a charity supporting those in poverty.

LENT – A TIME FOR SLOWNESS!
By Revd Hannah Jeffery, Rector of Desborough, Dingley, Braybrooke and Brampton Ash.
The Christian season of Lent begins on 18th February — a season traditionally associated with giving things up. Lent is a 40-day period leading up to Easter, observed by Christians as a time for reflection and renewal. Chocolate, alcohol, social media: many of us choose a small sacrifice as a reminder to live more intentionally. But what if, this year, we choose to give up hurry?  What if we embraced the discipline of slowness?
We live in a culture of hurry. Our days are filled with deadlines, notifications and the constant pressure to do more, faster. We rush from one task to the next, often without noticing the toll it takes. Hurry can erode our sense of presence, pulling us away from calm and towards stress, and blinding us to the everyday beauty and joy around us.
The season of Lent offers an invitation to step off the treadmill. Slowness is not laziness; it is a deliberate choice to be fully present — creating space to breathe, to notice, and to reconnect with what truly matters. This practice can be helpful for anyone, of any faith or none.
There are simple ways to begin. You might choose the longest queue at the supermarket and use the extra minutes to observe your surroundings or rest in stillness. When driving, resist the urge to keep switching lanes in pursuit of the fastest route. Stay in the slower lane and allow the journey to unfold more gently. Consider setting aside one regular day each week as a kind of sabbath — a day with fewer commitments, dedicated to rest and renewal. You might even dare to have a phone-free day, which can bring an unexpected sense of freedom.
Slowness can also be practised in daily rhythms. Share a relaxed meal with family or friends and savour the flavours and conversation rather than eating on the run. Take a slow walk and notice the sounds, sights and smells that usually pass unnoticed: birdsong, the play of light through trees, the feel of the air on your skin.
There is a lovely phrase that describes Jesus as a “three-mile-an-hour God.” He walked almost everywhere he went. Along the way, he noticed people, stopped for conversations and paid attention to beauty and need. His pace allowed space for connection.
If you experiment with slowness this Lent, you may initially feel resistance. But after six weeks of gentle practice, you might find yourself more relaxed and more in tune with your own heart and with the people around you. In the quiet spaces created by slowness, you may also begin to notice the presence of God in your midst.
This Lent, perhaps the most meaningful journey we can take is not a faster one, but a slower one.
